RECORD STORE DAY 2009

Email Print

record store day logoOn Saturday April 18th 2009, hundreds of Independently owned music stores around the world will celebrate RECORD STORE DAY.  On this day, all of these stores will simultaneously link and act as one with the purpose of celebrating the culture and unique place that they occupy both in their local communities and internationally. Show your love for records and the stores that sell them right across Melbourne…

We will lure you in with all sorts of wonders; Exclusive releases delivered especially for the day; including the brand new Den Haan 12” on OPTIMO MUSIC and rather special edit compilation from NYC's BIM MARX aka Duane Harriot & Jorge Velez, a very special secret guest shop assistant, discounts, giveaways, dj’s playing all day long, mini hot dogs treats and enough free beer to fill an olympic pool 10 times over. Our friends at Basement Discs, Greville Records, Last Record Store, Licorice Pie, Missing Link, Northside Records, Polyester Records, Pure Pop Records, Record Collectors Corner, Round & Round, White Rabbit Record Bar all have surprises up their sleeves too. So grab yourself an all day Metcard and prepare to Love An  Adventure (just not Psuedo Echo’s!) of 12 inch proportions…

RECORD STORE DAY is about raising consciousness. It's a day to remind people how exciting, interesting and fun it is to go into a real record store. Hear some live music, and listen to albums in-store. Enjoy the tactile and visual feast that is so much a part of browsing through the racks in really good music stores. Celebrate the joy of interacting with other music lovers, discussing new releases and reissues with equal fervour. This is a day on which to consider the major contribution that independent stores (not just record stores) make to the cultural fabric and personality of a community/city/state/country. And to remind us all that they are part of the here and now, and not to be spoken of in nostalgic terms.

Come on in, join in the fun!
